Seventeen-year-old Kate Bennet is being held captive in an isolated cabin in a remote New Zealand beach town--brought there by a mysterious man named Jim. He calls her Evie and tells her he's protecting her because she did something terrible one night in Melbourne.

This is a captivating suspense story with well-drawn, believable characters. Olivia Mackenzie-Smith doesn't make much distinction between character voices, but it's not really a problem. Her narration is quite adequate. The story jumps between before and after an event that isn't fully revealed until the very end. This creates suspenseful tension through the entire story, culminating in a rather surprising finale. I recommend this story to anyone who likes character-driven suspense.
