A twisted serial killer is stalking the streets of New York City, dealing his own perverse brand of justice. He kills silently, leaving his calling card--a red J--on the bodies of his victims. The only man with a shot at finding the killer is tough-as-nails retired NYPD homicide detective Artemis Beam. And he's more than willing to return to the work he does best. Even better, Beam isn't officially a cop anymore--so he doesn't have to play by the rules.

This book is so very much like several others of Lutz's novels. A retired NYPD cop is called back into service by a high-ranking officer to find a serial killer. He gets partnered with 2 detectives, one man and one woman. Lutz has done this so often, it's utterly boring and formulaic. It's like reading the same book over and over. The plot of this book isn't even very believable.
As usual, Scott Brick's performance was great, given the material he had to work with. But if Lutz cannot come up with something different, I think I'm done with this series.
